"Afternoon Mug" -Junhao Wang |
1. Description
- It's a lighter colored mug on a reflective surface.
- The light source seems to come from behind the mug.
2. Analysis
- Elements of Art Found- line, space, shape, value
- Value- different values were used to give the impression of a 3D object
- Principles of Design Found- contrast, emphasis, "balance"
- Contrast-a darker reflection is used to contrast the light mug
- Emphasis-our eyes are drawn to the center of the work
- Balance-the centered mug balances the work
3. Interpretation
- Gives me the impression of lightness, not a very dramatic work.
4. Evaluation
- The shape of the mug itself is odd-it doesn't follow perspective well.
- The mug's rim doesn't really help the mug look 3D, or real.
- The handle's shadows are not very convincing.
- The shadow itself could have transitioned to white better.
- Values are not very smooth-they don't blend well.
- Shadows and reflection appear to be the right size.
- I believe the values in the work are correctly done (placement of dark and lightness).
